“Daily Moment with Jesus” for May 26

by Karen Blanchard

As we focus this week on some of the attributes of God that have been the most meaningful during this time, I have found God to be WORTHY OF PRAISE!

Clapping.  A show of appreciation, excitement, joy, or admiration.  Clapping combined with shouting.  That speaks to the professional singer’s heart in me. Back in June of 2018, I performed a concert-length, newly commissioned piece called “The Arc in the Sky” by Kile Smith with the professional choir I sing with called The Crossing.  It was an hour-long piece that was both exciting to sing and extremely vocally taxing because of its long phrases and placement within the voice.  The final movement was especially so, as it divided our 24-voice chamber choir into 16 parts meaning most of us were one on a part.  As the 12-minute final movement came to its completion, the conductor cut off the final fortissimo (extremely loud) chord and its incredible wall of sound as everyone sang at the top of their range.  The silence was palpable… but only for a brief moment. Within seconds after the piece ended, every member of the audience JUMPED to their feet with crazy applause yelling, “Bravo!  Bravo!”  I stood there exhausted, tears rolling down my face in response to the beauty everyone in the room had just shared.

In this time when our news stories are filled with fear and sickness, and our isolation seems to be creating a deafening silence, listen for the APPLAUSE! Listen for the clapping.  Celebrate the great and mighty things that our GREAT and Mighty God has done and is still doing!  The psalmist writes in Psalm 47, “God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.  Sing praise to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.  For God is the King of all the earth; sing to Him a psalm of praise.”

Our masterful, creative, loving God is SO worthy of our praise, adoration, celebration, and overwhelming applause.  He wants to share with us the beautiful moments He continues to create – people coming to know Jesus as Savior, renewed commitments to Christ, a refined vision for His Church, people meeting the needs of others selflessly, new friendships forming, families reconnecting, spiritual disciplines strengthening, ….   He is GOOD!  He is not surprised by our current circumstances; he is working through them!  It is our job to continue to praise, honor, and trust Him! “BRAVO, God.  BRAVO!”
