“As my vision continued that night, I saw someone like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient One and was led into his presence. He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal – it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.”

Daniel 7:13-14

ISIS. Hurricanes. North Korea. Mass shootings. Earthquakes. Church Shootings. Russia. The list could go on and on and on. For centuries Christians have been asking if we are living in the last days, if Jesus is coming back soon. This prophesy brings both good news and bad news.

Let’s start with the bad news: I don’t know if we are living in the end times. I wish I could answer that question. We can clearly look at the signs of the times in the world around us and see the “birth pangs” that are described in scripture in the end times. Jesus did make it clear in Matthew 24 that “no one knows the day and the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows.” So we don’t know. Things could get better, and they could get worse. The only thing I know for certain is that we are closer to the return of Christ at the moment you are reading this than at the moment it was written.

The good news however is GREAT news. That is what Daniel brings to us in this   prophesy. That is that the Son of Man IS coming back. Daniel describes the return of Christ and the amazing hope that he brings for eternity that he will return to reign with authority, honor and sovereignty. This rule will be eternal, never ending. Because of this truth we can face any difficulty in life – political, social, or natural -with hope and peace knowing that it is only temporary.
